Review: Broken Soul by Faith Hunter

Broken Soul by Faith Hunter will leave fans breathless!

From Faith Hunter’s website:

Jane Yellowrock is a vampire killer for hire—but other creatures of the night still need to watch their backs….

When the Master of the city of New Orleans asks Jane to improve security for a future visit from a delegation of European vampires, she names an exorbitant price—and Leo is willing to pay. That’s because the European vamps want Leo’s territory, and he knows that he needs Jane to prevent a total bloodbath. Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.

Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see….

The Enchanted Alley’s Review

As a long-time reader of the Jane Yellowrock series, I have come to expect great things from these novels: intense action, well-developed story and series arcs, and just a little bit of romance.  Broken Soul exceeded all of my expectations.  It takes readers back to the basics with a tight cast of characters (don’t worry; your favorites do have cameos) and a storyline that pulls just the right threads from previous books.  It also ups the stakes (see what I did there?) to an unprecedented level.

While the author does a great job of reminding the reader of past events, important characters, and crucial story lines, readers really should read the earlier books in the series, especially Black Arts, before reading this one.  If you haven’t read Black Arts, there are a number of major events that you may not understand.  Even though the events are recapped briefly, the emotional depth and consequences of the previous books’ events simply can’t be summed up in a few sentences.

Team Bruiser fans will also love this book.  And quite possibly want to throw it.  All at the same time.  Just like a cat and mouse game, Hunter plays with the readers who so desperately hope to see Jane and Bruiser jump between the sheets.  Will they?  Won’t they?  I am not telling.
