Jurassic World (2015) keeps you at the edge of your seat. While the first 20-30 minutes start off slow to set up the difficult relations between Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her nephews Zach and Gray and her dysfunctional working relationship with Owen (Chris Pratt), once the genetically modified dinosaur escapes, the movie is non-stop. The main dinosaur is inspired by Michael Crichton’s genetically engineered dinosaurs in his novels Jurassic Park and The Lost World. While in the past movies (Jurassic Park, The Lost World, & Jurassic Park III) we have feared the Velociraptors and T-Rex, named “Rexy,” they have come to be the dinosaurs we cleave to and adore. By incorporating pack mentality training into the movie, we glimpse positive behaviors from the formerly feared velociraptors: Blue, Charlie, Echo, and Delta. I lost count of how many times I jumped, grabbed my husband’s hand, or smacked his leg during the movie when I got excited. There is language in the movie that could make some uncomfortable. No nudity, but a lot of blood and gore. People do get eaten and chomped on by the scary, psychotic, 50-foot dinosaur. It promotes brotherly bonding and love between families who’ve lost track of how to communicate in a technology driven society. It is a great movie with the expected story plot of the people, bad things start happening that that lead to the bad dino escaping, bad decisions by the egotistical people are made (so they die horrible deaths), fighting and escaping the dinosaur(s), and the win with a satisfied ending of everyone safe. What more can you ask from a Jurassic Park movie?
